# Marketplace Account Health and EU Compliance: GPSR, EPR and the Fields That Get Listings Suspended

A practical guide to Amazon Account Health Rating, GPSR Responsible Person rules and EPR numbers for sellers on European marketplaces.

Most marketplace accounts are not suspended overnight. They decline quietly: a few listings suppressed for missing data, a policy warning left unanswered, a performance metric drifting the wrong way. By the time sales visibly drop, the problem has been building for weeks.

This is the fourth post in our Ecommerce Management series. Here we cover the two things that protect your right to sell: account health and, for European marketplaces, regulatory compliance.

*Note: This post is a practical overview for marketplace sellers, not legal advice. Always confirm your specific obligations with a compliance specialist.*

## Account health: the score behind your selling privileges

On Amazon, account health is summarized in the **Account Health Rating (AHR)**, a score from 0 to 1,000 shown per store in Seller Central. According to Amazon, new sellers start at 200, and the score reflects policy adherence over the previous 180 days. Scores of 200 and above are "Healthy", 100 to 199 are "At Risk", and 99 or lower are "Unhealthy", meaning the account is eligible for deactivation or already deactivated.

Other marketplaces use their own performance dashboards and thresholds, but they monitor similar signals.

### What drags account health down

- **Customer service performance:** order defects, negative feedback, A-to-z claims, chargebacks.
- **Shipping performance:** late shipments, pre-fulfillment cancellations, missing or invalid tracking.
- **Policy compliance:** intellectual property complaints, authenticity complaints, product safety issues, restricted products and listing policy violations.

Notice how many of these are operational. Overselling creates cancellations. Slow tracking uploads create late-shipment defects. Incomplete product data creates policy flags. Account health is the scoreboard for your ecommerce management.

### A weekly account health routine

1. Check the account health dashboard for every marketplace and every country, not just your largest store.
2. Respond to every new policy notification, even "low impact" ones. Unresolved items accumulate.
3. Review suppressed and inactive listings and fix the underlying data at the source.
4. Keep invoices, certificates and safety documents organized, so you can respond to a request quickly.
5. Track trends. A score that is still "Healthy" but falling deserves attention.

## EU compliance: when product data becomes legal data

For brands selling in Europe, especially those coming from the US, Turkey or other non-EU markets, compliance requirements now sit directly inside listing data. Two frameworks matter most.

### GPSR: the General Product Safety Regulation

The GPSR has applied since 13 December 2024 and covers most non-food consumer products sold in the EU. For marketplace sellers, the practical requirements include:

- **An EU-based responsible economic operator** (often called the "Responsible Person") for covered products. If the manufacturer is not established in the EU, this can be an importer, an authorized representative or, in some cases, a fulfillment service provider.
- **Manufacturer and Responsible Person details on the listing**, including name, postal address and electronic contact information.
- **Product identification and safety information**, such as images, product identifiers and warnings or safety instructions in the local language.
- **Documentation** that demonstrates the product's safety and can be provided if a marketplace or authority asks for it.

Marketplaces including Amazon enforce this at listing level. Products in affected categories without valid Responsible Person information can be suppressed.

### EPR: Extended Producer Responsibility

EPR rules make producers responsible for the end-of-life costs of packaging, electronics, batteries and, in some countries, many more product types. Marketplaces are legally required to verify that their sellers comply.

- **Germany:** sellers need registration numbers for packaging (the LUCID number from the central packaging register), and for electrical and electronic equipment and batteries where applicable. Amazon suspends non-compliant offers in those categories.
- **France:** EPR covers a much broader range of categories, including packaging, electronics, batteries, furniture, textiles, toys and more. If you do not provide your registration numbers, Amazon may declare and pay eco-contributions on your behalf and recover the cost from you.
- **Other markets** such as Spain and Austria have their own EPR requirements and marketplace checks.

Registration numbers are issued per country and per category, so a brand expanding across Europe can quickly end up managing a long list of numbers on several marketplaces.

## Make compliance part of your catalog, not a side project

The brands that handle this well treat compliance fields like any other product attribute:

- Store manufacturer, Responsible Person, safety warnings and document references in your central product data.
- Map those fields to each marketplace's required attributes so they are populated automatically. In our client work we do this inside **StoreAutomator** alongside the rest of the catalog mapping.
- Check that the information actually displays on the live listing in each country, not just in your back-end files.
- Add compliance checks to your launch checklist for every new market and every new product.

## Protect your accounts before you scale them
